Is there a way to remove names from certain icons on my desktop.

On some of them I would like to just have the icon. Is this possible?

I don't think so; it is a mandatory property desktop icons. However, if you Add to panel the label disappears; so why not add another Panel and put them there rather than in the Desktop folder?
