KDE 4.7 + Kubuntu 11.04 - Themes Look Glitchy

Hello everybody. A couple days ago, I reinstalled Kubuntu 11.04 on my MacBook 1,1 (2.0 GHz Core Duo, Intel GMA 945). I then added the Kubuntu Backports PPA in order to upgrade to KDE 4.7. After that, my themes have had a glitchy appearance (screenshots below). This applies to not just Oxygen, but every thing I set. The window borders look just fine, but everything else looks dull and flat. This issue only affects KDE applications; GTK+ applications look just fine.

I did create a new account, and themes looked fine in the new account. I also deleted my ~/.kde folder in the affected account, but it had no effect. I truly do not want to have to create and configure a new account to solve this problem, so I'm turning to here for help. Is there anything anybody can think of doing to relieve the problem?

Here are some screenshots:

Thanks.

So does anybody have any ideas of what could be causing the problem? The only remedy I've found so far is creating a new user, but that truly is something I would rather avoid, as it would take me hours to re-configure everything to be the way I had it again. I can't simply copy my home folder over, as that re-creates the problem.

things to try:
- change theme and then change back to Oxygen
- rename your kwinrc and oxygenrc files in ~/.kde/share/config, then restart KDE - may need to do this with your session closed to take effect. Of course you will now be at the default Kwin and Oxygen settings but if it doesn't solve it you have the original config files to revert back to.

Thanks for suggestions google01103. Unfortunately, this affects all of my themes, not just Oxygen. I also renamed kwinrc and oxygenrc with my session closed, but that had no effect. I also went ahead and moved the entire ~/.kde/share/config folder to my Desktop, and even still, the problem persists. Are there any other directories I could be looking into?

On that note, I even moved my entire ~/.kde folder, as well as ~/.kderc, and I'm still experiencing this issue. It must be something in my home folder, though, as new accounts look just fine.

remove ~/.kde/cache-*.site since it's a link renaming/moving ~/.kde would not stop the newly created one from using it. Again probably with your session closed

try renaming ~/.config/ and restarting - can't see where it would be the cause but ......

are there any kind of Intel GMA 945 config files in ~/ ?

Well, moving ~/.kde/cache-*.site didn't work, nor did moving the folder it linked to (var/tmp/kde/kdecache-user), but that didn't work either.

However, renaming ~/.config did work. So that's good, now it's just a matter of narrowing down what in ~/.config might be causing the problem. I tried ~/.config/kde.org, but that isn't it. Might you have any suggestions?

sorry, looking at my ~/.config/ I don't see anything, what's in ~/.config/autostart?

I'd try to id the problem by moving 1/2 the folders/files at a time and restarting until you could id the culprit. Might be able to use the command kwin --restart instead of doing a full restart to quicken the process

The culprit was ~/.config/Trolltech.conf (fitting name, by the way). kwin --restart was a good idea, but I ended up having to kill & restart plasma-desktop to see any effect. Thanks for the tip, and thanks for your help! I very much appreciate it, and I'm loving that everything looks as it should. :-D

Out of curiosity, what exactly is Trolltech.conf for? I looked inside it but I couldn't make any sense of it.

not really sure - TrollTech is the company that created qt (which is the toolkit KDE is based on) and now owned by Nokia

if you look at the file you see that it's generated and if erased it will be regenerated, yours must have gotten corrupted, possibly the last lines which are all mostly KWinPalette
