It works for me, I run OpenSuSE 11.0, 32 bit ( KDE 4.1.2, Java 1.5.0_16 )

Sun does not provide java plugin for 64 bit as far as I know. I have it(not from Sun) working on amd64 but I do not really know how I did it.
Try installing OpenJDK. |

But then again Konqueror does not use the Java Plugin but rather starts the Java runtime interpreter "java" Cheers, _

In Konqueror check the path to the 'java' executable is correct.
It can be set in Settings > Configure Konqueror > Web Browsing > Java & JavaScript It should read either 'java' or a specific path to a java executable ( /usr/bin/java for me ) that is valid. Note that if the correct 'java' executable is in your $PATH then just 'java' should work fine ( does for me )
