network manager not in system tray

Wed Mar 14, 2012 11:04 pm
I installed Debian Testing (wheezy) on a acer netbook from a usb-stick.

No network access at install time. Install media was the kde image, gnome never installed.

Though the wireless card is suppord in the kernel without access to the repos at install time several things don't work as they should. The most anoying now is that to get access to the network manager to establish a wifi connection I had to add a widget to the task bar.

But it is not in the system tray. How do I get it there?

I have looked at all the settings in System Settings but don't see a place to send it to the systray.
