The application "network-manager-applet" is a GNOME application. KDE ships with it's own interface to NetworkManager, referred to as Network Management.
To enable the applet, right click on the system tray area (preferably the "Show Hidden Icons" arrow, select "System Tray Settings" > Display. Under "Extra Items" make sure "Network Management" is checked.

interesting problem. google01103 is on target. i needed to see network status in suse becaue my windows networking status is toggling between "a network connection is unplugged" and "connected". an i can't find anything wrong. i'm guessing a hardware problem, but maybe i need a new bios or driver. what an enigma. or cut my loses and invest in a new pc with 8 cores and a gazillion bazillion transistor self adjusting smart video card. wait! wait! i have a better solution: suse is telling me "no network interfaces", and my windows connection is toggling up and down. the common denominator is the ethernet port. i will disable the ethernet port if i can, but i will install a new ethernet card. problem solved. i can't justify the new pc, although i wanted to. |

One thing you could try to minimise the disturbance is (in your virtual machine software) set the network connection to "Always On" / "Plugged In" rather than "Autodetect" if the option exists. (Different software uses different terms unfortunately).

Hi,
I have had the same problem, I installed some patches for Opensuse 13.1 and the network applet went away. I just re-downloaded the network applet plasmoid+libs (as mentioned above) and was then able to locate 'Network Management' in 'System Tray Settings'. (Just a note for future viewers.) Thanks for the solution btw... |
