Konqueror and tar.gz files

Tue May 22, 2012 11:59 am
Each time I try to download a tar.gz file (for example, klatexformula from SourceForge), Konqueror opens it instead with an embedded ark instance.

I tried disabling the "browse compressed files as folders" option, but it do nothing on the problem and the option became disabled from Dolphin too... and I want to browse local tar.gz files.

How can I teach Konqueror that I want to download tar.gz files and not view their content?

KDE SC 4.8.3 on openSUSE 11.4, 64 bits

Thanks!

If you right-mouse click on the link to the tar.gz file, do you get the option to "save link as"?

You also may want to check this setting, in your Konqueror Settings:

Thanks, but that option is already selected.

For direct links a right click offers the "Save link as", but SourceForge redirect downloads so I only have 5 seconds to locate and right click / drag-n-drop the small direct link...

Ah. I went to the link you provided and saw what you mean about "opening" the tar.gz rather than the option to save. But, what I also saw was that, once it's downloaded, if you click File and Save As, you can then save the tar.gz to your PC.

So Konqueror is just downloading the tar.gz into its cache first (I guess), shows you the contents, and then you can save it to a file if you wish.
