Hi,
System: Gentoo with 4.8.3 amd64 Since kde 4.4 is browsing in Dolphin with "network:/" very slow. On a network with about 20 Servers/PCs and many services, after login in KDE the first click at the networkbutton takes about more then 7 minutes. Why takes that a lot of time? The first message in Dolphin is "The file or folder "network:/" does not exist. In this time open dolphin, kontact, kopete, and other programmes is not posible. Services in "zeroconf:/" are immediately available. What is the problem with these KDE-Service. I've testet this with Gentoo, Kubuntu 12.04 and Suse. http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/4944/networkl.png Greetings boospy

I suspect what is happening is a freeze inside kded4, which hosts a module that supports the network:/ KIO slave.
This would explain why a series of KDE applications refuse to open after trying this - as kded4 is contacted by many processes to accomplish certain tasks. When the applications freeze, could you try attaching a debugger to kded4, and get a full backtrace?
