Hi,
I use Kopete 1.2.3 (KDE 4.8.3) on Kubuntu 12.04 LTS through proxy. On 11.10 with KDE4.7 all worked fine. Now Kopete doesn't work with proxy during startup. But if I disable and re-enable proxy all works. So, 1. I run Kopete. An "Unknown error" message appears and no kopete related traffic on my NIC. I checked this with tcpdump, wireshark etc. 2. I disable proxy. Kopete trying to connect and failed of course. 3. I re-enable proxy and connect. All works. My kopeterc is following

Once you have enabled the proxy again, does quitting Kopete and reopening it lead to it being able to reconnect without problems?

No. I need to repeat steps 1-3 each time. |

Does this behaviour occur with other protocols such as Jabber as well?

I use ICQ only. |

Could you please try testing with another protocol? A Jabber account is freely available from kdetalk.net.

As I understand I can use Google Talk account with Jabber plugin but can't find proxy settings for jabber

The Jabber plugin should follow the KDE-wide proxy settings hopefully.

But ICQ plugin uses own proxy settings and I disable and re-enable these settings.
So, I have a problem with these settings. Am I wrong? |

Anyway Jabber does not connect.
Unfortunately I can't operate with proxy settings here. Jabber has not own proxy settings. |

Correct. I was not aware the ICQ plugin had it's own proxy settings. In this case, it is probably a regression in the ICQ plugin, where it is failing to load it's own settings.
As a final check, can you reproduce this behaviour under a new user?

But It load these settings after I disable and re-enable.
Under startup I have same problem. No connection, no traffic. Moreover, after disabling/re-enabling proxy I see following messages:

I compared kopeterc for both users. [ICQVersion] section not found for new user.
I copied this section from my config. All works after disabling/re-enabling. But under startup Kopete does not connect as previously. |

Very interesting. Please report this behaviour as a regression on bugs.kde.org, and retain a backup copy of your current Kopete configuration, as you may need to restore it should problems eventuate.
