Even though I have Konversation set to automaticly reconect, the vast majority of the time it fails. How can I fix this?

is this at startup or when manually starting Konversation?

if at startup is your network available?

in the Freenode tab are there any errors?

in the connection settings there is an option to show "raw log window when connecting" enable it and see if there are indicators to a problem

Neither. It is just at random times the connection drops out due to network congestion or whatever reason, it may try to reconnect once or twice and then give up.

I dont believe so but will double check next time it happens.

Done, will keep an eye on this.

I checked for known bugs and didn't see anything open that looked relevant https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?bug_st ... _based_on=

I've had some issues lately with some freenode mirrors, I had to explicitely select a mirror that works... You may want to try that. What I found a bit strange is that konversation was always trying to contact the same mirror, until I explicitely assigned another one.

I am dealing exclusively with a single private irc server. If memories serves me right the problem started when switching from Debian Stable to Kubuntu. I know at one time konversation worked fine on this server.

So it happened again over night while I was sleeping, I have subbed out the server name for freenode, and this is from a log file. For some reason Konversation seems frozen not allowing me to get to the server window to see the error output.

I dont have the log handy atm, but I think I have figured out what the problem is. After looking at another "failed reconnect" it turns out that I am reconnecting to the server, but since the connection doesn't gracefully disconnect, my registered nick is still in use, and since I did not set an extra nick, it reconnects to the server but fails to properly re-authenticate. I set up an Alt Nick now to see how things go next time the connection drops out.
