Now this might be posted in the wrong place, as I don't know where to address this:
With skype 4 on kubuntu 12.04, KDE SC 4.9.4, the power manager is not inhibited from suspending while a conversation is under way. Is this KDE specific, or kubuntu? I assume skype somehow broadcasts that it is active, but KDE doesn't seem to check/care. Any thoughts on this? |

In this case, it is probable that Skype is not communicating to the correct FDO interface which KDE implements.
Please see the output of:
There is a Python application linked elsewhere on this form which can aid in suppressing KDE power management temporarily.

OK, so the command shows which functions would have to be called to inhibit suspend.
How is this handled in general? Does every window manager have its own functions (Gnome, KDE, XFCE...) and a software has to implement all of those? Or do window manager listen to all possible signals for all possible window manager and translate them accordingly? Basically I would like to know whether this is skype's or KDE's "fault"*? Unfortunately I cannot remember whether signalling was working with skype 2. Back then I had suspend disabled because the computer wouldn't wake up from suspend (kernel problem, works now). * There should be some kind of gentlemen agreement between coders, I believe. |

In general, desktop environments should implement the freedesktop.org interface - which KDE does as far as I know. It is probable that Skype does not implement the freedesktop.org interface.
