Network Manager OpenVPN Error

Tue Sep 18, 2012 1:06 pm
Hi guys,

i'm trying for the first time Linux Mint with Kde; I've found something that seems like a bug..when i start a VPN connection via network manager, nothing happens, but in the "syslog" file i found the following error:

Code: Select all
NetworkManager[1037]: <error> [1347964859.768187] [nm-vpn-connection.c:934] get_secrets_cb(): Failed to request VPN secrets #2: (6) No agents were available for this request.
NetworkManager[1037]: <info> Policy set 'Wired connection 1' (eth0) as default for IPv4 routing and DNS.
NetworkManager[1037]: <info> VPN service 'openvpn' disappeared

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Which Plasma NM version do you use? You can see the version string by clicking on "Manage Connections" then on "Other". That messages indicates NetworkManager was not able to contact a secret agent, the most common reasons for that are:

. Plasma NM is not installed;
. kded is not running or Plasma NM's kded module is not loaded;
. dbus or polkit are denying access to Plasma NM's kded module's dbus interface. This can happen if you are using systemd-sessiond;
. if you are not using systemd then you must use consolekit or the problem above will also happen. I prefer to use consolekit because it is more stable than systemd-sessiond.

Hi,

I solved this issue; in the field "Store connection secrets" i found "In secure storage" instead of "In a file", maybe i swicht this settings scrolling with the mouse.

Thank you for your help.

Hmmm I forgot another case that could explain that message:

. the secrets are not really stored :-) That was your case.
