Hello,
I notice in rekonq there is the option to use Kget as the download manager. That would be perfectly fine except I can't figure out how to get Kget to allow me to edit the transfer before it proceeds to download. In any case, I see no way of telling rekonq to auto open .torrent files with ktorrent. Currently, I'm required to download the torrent file, open the torrent file and then manually delete the torrent file. It would be much simpler to have the option to "open with" or similar. This could apply to any number of file extensions and IMO allow for much better KDE integration with ther KDE apps. If there is a way of doing this that I am missing, I would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks |

I'm guessing, but I think rekonq will (should) obey kde's settings. So, if kget is the default application for .torrent files, it'll launch kget.
The fix is to open system settings > file associations and search for bittorrent (or simply right click a torrent file, properties and click the wrench) and set your preferred application to deal with torrent files. This setting is respected system-wide, so if konqueror, dolphin and any other kde application you use will also do the same.

Thanks for the quick response. While that works with downloading a file then opening it, I was hoping that rekonq had the ability to open a file similar to firefox's "open with" dialogue, that allows you to open the file instead of explicitly downloading it to your downloads folder. Main reason is I do a lot of torrent activity, and it is a real annoyance having a download folder full of used .torrent files. If ktorrent had the ability to delete .torrent files after use, then that would be perfect, but they don't. So I was rather hoping rekonq could do the above.
I'm keen to have a pure KDE distro, but little things like this steer me towards using non KDE browsers or torrent clients... |

Not sure about your particular user-case, but you may want to enable "Scan folder" plugin.

Two comments. 1. I'm entirely sure rekonq will happily open a torrent file if you left-click a link. What's more, if you've set ktorrent to be your default application, the action should basically launch ktorrent with the torrent file loaded. 2. Instead of downloading torrent files, you should just click on magnet links. Recommended for a variety of reasons.

The scan folder plugin is perfect! Thanks for informing me of that. I have one other issue, not sure whether to start a new topic for it or now....
