Hi guys,
I need your help with a problem that I have and it only started happening lately. When I start kopete, all works fine for a while but after a bit I can't restore the main window. I have no tray icon for kopete, I only have it under the message indicator. When I click the message indicator in the panel, and then click Kopete, nothing happens and I can't bring it up. The only way to do so is to kill it and start it again. Now if I start kopete again from the menu (before killing the already running process), the main window does come up but totally blank. You can see no contacts at all and going offline/online does nothing. Also when u go in the settings u see no accounts (msn, gmail, etc). So basically all I can do is click quit and start it again. I've enabled the lastest beta version from this ppa (ppa:pali/kopete) hoping that it would fix my issue but it hasn't and I don't know what to do Any help would go a long way as I love kopete and use it a lot with my friends from overseas . using kubuntu 12.04 kde v4.9.2 kopete v1.3.70 |

Unusual. Could you try keeping a Kopete main window open (even if minimized) and see if this still occurs?

Well that's the whole point, if I leave no windows open (close them with the x) that's when I'm unable to restore kopete from the tray by clicking it's icon in the message indicator. This happen after a random time, not right away. If I do leave the main window open, then everything works fine since I don't have to restore anything I'm going to leave this thread open for a few more weeks for any more suggestions as to what I can try because I did find a way around that problem. I now have enabled the tray icon for kopete and set it to always hidden in the system tray settings and that way it doesnt interfere with the message indicator. So far I had no problems restoring the main window. |

One thing I did think of is that the message indicator does not integrate sufficiently with Kopete to prevent part of it's shutdown process from commencing - which Qt would automatically enact when no windows remained open (or on other events).
This could very well explain the largely empty main window... If simply enabling the system tray icon fixes the issue, then this is probably the case.

well i think you're probably right. After a week of having done that never had that issue again. I now have the kopete tray icon permanently hidden and it all works great just like as if it wasn't there
thank you |
