Hello everybody,
I just installed skolelinux, a Debian based distro for schools. My problem is that I don't get a network connection what so ever. I can create a wired network connection manually, but it will not get activated. If I plug in the cable nothing happens. It is as if there was no cable. The problem has something to do with KDE since I was able to install the distro via network. |

Odd... What does ifconfig say? Are you using any sort of network manager? What's in your /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf?
Need more info of your setup to be able to diagnose further.

To my knowlege I use the defsult network manager of KDE
Here come pictures with the if config, the network interface and the network Manager, that you requested http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17036640/ifconfig.png http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17036640/interfaces.png When I saw the original configuration of this file, I added the # in front of all the lines that have something to do with the static IP-Address and decommented the dhcp-line but it didn't has any effect. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17036640/network%20manager.png |

Thanks for the info.
Looks like you are connected to the internet . Can you ping google.com? Next question: how do you connect to the internet? Seems you haven't got a router at your disposal to create a LAN. Finally, if you want networkmanager to manage your interface you'll have to set managed=true in networkmanager.conf and restart your networking service.

It's just great :
Now it takes much longer to boot the system and I even can't log in. toad, I really appreciate your help, but that is too much trouble for a system I only wanted to test in the first place. I give up and switch back to my old system. Thanks anyway. |
