How to have a static bluetooth pin?

Wed Dec 12, 2012 3:16 pm
I have a Nokia E6 smartphone which I use to get internet with Bluetooth DialUp Networking.
I have more than 6 different partitions on my notebook with PCLinuxOS in 4 and Chakra and OpenSuse in other 2.
I am unable to use the Bluetooth DUN across all of them without reconfiguring each time.

Initially I thought it might be due to the adapter name being set differently. So I have made them all the same.

Now I am thinking that it could be because of the dynamic PIN used for pairing which is different each time pairing is done and is auto-generated.

My question is:
1. Is it possible to have a fixed PIN for the laptop so that all the installations will use the same PIN?
2. Is there anything else that is causing this which I have no knowledge of?

Qt 4.8.2
KDE 4.9.2
Bluetooth 0.1
BlueDevil 1.1
Obex data server 0.4.6
Obexd 0.30

Unfortunately it won't be due to the PIN... from my understanding the PIN is only used to authenticate that first session - after which a secured pairing relationship is established.

I'm not sure exactly what underpins this relationship, but it is probably based around some form of random, cryptographic key. Unfortunately you cannot fix this other than by trying to share the directory /var/lib/bluetooth/ between the partitions.

bcooksley,
Thank you very much for the information.
I will try to find out if there is something within that directory or elsewhere.
