konqueror file opening question

Fri Jan 25, 2013 10:54 pm
Konqueror no longer works the way it previously did.

I have an html menu that links to a series of other html documents
that has worked fine for years. However, when I switched from
PCLinux to Kubuntu and Linux Mint recently, konqueror no longer
works the way it previously did and I can't figure out why.

Within my html menu, I have some code like this small example:

<li><a href=file:/home/user/menu/option1.htm>option1</a>
<li><a href=file:/home/user/menu/option2.htm>option2</a>
<li><a href=file:/home/user/menu/option3.htm>option3</a>

This used to work so that when I clicked on option1, 2, or 3
the corresponding html page would open. But now, instead of
opening the page, konqueror displays the source code for each option.
What do I need to do to get konqueror to work the way it previously did?

Is there some other forum where questions pertaining to konqueror can be or should be posted?

Just PM a moderator / admin for this post to be moved to "System & Utilities"

Konquerer doesn't seem to be so popular these days so I don't know what type of feedback you'll get.

I think you are in wrong view mode. In view/view Mode you can chose between different modes dependent was you have installed. I can choose webkit, khtml and "Embedded advance text editor". If you choose the editor you get the source code. If you choose a web engine as backed you get you menu.
I tried your code snippet with webkit as backend and linked the menu to a webpage template and it worked for me at least.

It sounds like the preferred option for viewing *.html files on your system in an embedded manner has been set to the text editor.

Please open System Settings > File Associations, and search for "text/html", select it, and then check the "Embedding" preferences on the right side. Make sure that either Webkit or KHTML are at the top, depending on your individual preference.

I have some similar problems in konqueror that i did nt have before (current version 4.8.5)
Eg: When i want to download a plasmoid in kde-apps.org it opens the archive with the kwrite
In some other cases instead of download an archive it opens it with ark

I have tried several settings in files association, some times after reset the settings it works but after some usage the unwanted behaviour comes back again

Please note that KDE relies upon the mimetype sent by the web server, so the application used may be incorrect if the sent mimetype was incorrect.
