Foreign language fonts in Rekonq?

Sun Jan 27, 2013 1:00 pm
Ive been trying to set fonts for specific languages in Rekonq but it doesnt seem to have the ability to do this yet. Is there someway to overcome this? I need to be able to read Japanese but the font that it gets displayed in is sometimes unreadable and always ugly. Is there anything I can do?

Are KDE applications normally able to disable such characters? ie. are the appropriate fonts installed on your system and accessible to it?

Yes. I have the fonts that I want installed and can use them in other applications. Rekonq gives no option to show a specific language in a spefic font and as far as Im aware, there is no way to set a system wide language specific font. Its really a pain.....

Can you check in Konqueror to see if it displays them correctly with the KHTML view?
You may also want to try the "Webkit" option that Konqueror has.

If Konqueror under Webkit also shows the issue but KHTML does not, then you have run into a bug in Qt Webkit, which will need to be reported to the Qt developers I suspect.

Even in Konqueror, I have no option to select a font for a specific language. Nowhere in my system have I come across a way to select a specific system wide font for, in this case, Japanese. So even if the KHTML view or Webkit option are working in Konqueror, it doesnt matter because there is no where to select which font I want.

In Opera, on the other hand, I can choose fonts for specific languages in the settings window.

If you are after an option to select foreign language fonts - you will need to file a feature request.
I was more interested in the rendering provided by Konqueror - is it correct?

It cant be correct because "correct" in this case doesnt exist. There is no way to choose which font Japanese is displayed in so it is displayed in Ubuntu, which makes English look great, but gets very confused in other languages. So Konqueror looks just like Rekonq.

Ill be filing a feature request. Thanks for your input.
