Kopete - enormous memory usage

Thu Aug 15, 2013 11:44 pm
Does anyone know why Kopete with only 1 identity, 1 jabber account and 3 users added occupies 1.4 GB of virtual memory?
There are no plugins available and all notifications have been turned off.
Anything can be done about it on my side?

The virtual memory space size is not really relevant. You should look at the "Res" value...

The VIRT value includes stuff like mmap, whereas RES is how much physical memory is being used by the process. VIRT gives the size of the virtual memory space of the application, which is not equivalent to how much memory it needs. On my computer the VIRT column adds up to well over 30 GB, although I only have 4 GB of memory installed. It is thus not relevant for judging how much memory a process uses.
