Hi,
I have a LARGE number of feeds that accumulate a LOT of articles - usually exceeding 50K. Is there a way to clean up/maintain the feed database? I notice periodic performance degradation and on one occasion had the whole thing explode. Ubuntu 12.04/Akregator 4.8.5 |

have you looked at the archive options in settings ? http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdepim/ak ... e-tab.html

Yes, I am aware of all that. The feed database is essentially similar to an email box or a forum. It's a large slab of indexed data that becomes like swiss cheese as some articles are saved and others are purged. These other apps usually have reindexing tools. I think this swiss cheese effect is what is causing sluggishness. |

Unfortunately Akregator uses a now rarely used backend to store it's data called Metakit. This means if the function is not supported by Akregator itself, it is quite likely that in place compacting is not supported by Metakit, and there are unlikely to be independent tools capable of doing this.

Thanks for the answer. So, in short, it's like driving down a blind tunnel with no lights and hoping there is no bricked up sudden dead end. The database has already ruptured once, and the way it's performing now, I guess it will happen again. Any other alternative's besides Liferea? It's the only semi-decent one I've found, but it lacks some of the things I like about Akregator. |

Unfortunately, yeah. There is a port to Akonadi for Akregator underway, which would solve the issue of an unreliable backend but it is not known when that will be able to be shipped at this stage.
