cannot cancel 'open with' dialogue

Thu Jan 16, 2014 2:50 pm
i have konqueror 4.10.5 on mageia3 64bit,
when i click on a link on a web page often i get the 'open with' dialogue, if i choose to cancel the dialogue (perhaps i forgot to right click) instead of the dialogue going away, it just stays there, to get rid of it i have to select an application to open the link and then cancel that application when it runs.

i have googled this but cannot find any help, any suggestions?

bascule

p.s. i have posted another question regarding konqueror failing to remember the apllication to open torrrent files with and always presenting the 'open with dialogue', perhaps this is related in some way?

Please post a screenshot of this - it should be possible to cancel and exit this dialog.

ok, tinypic seem to let me upload a pic without all that tedious joing up stuff so i hope this works :)

clicking on the cancel button just results in a refresh of the dialogue

That definitely appears to be a bug. If you try to open an unknown file in Dolphin, do you observe similar behaviour?

that proved to be a good question :) because not only does trying to open an unknown file in dolphin allow me to cancel the dialogue bit using konqeror as a local file manager also worked. it is only when using konqueror as web browser that i'm getting this problem, and only when left cicking on the file brings up the 'open with' dialogue. i experimented in konqueror as web browser with right clicking>open with>other which brings up the same dialogue but that cancels just fine. i'm no developer but upon left click i imagine that konqueror is trying to ascertain what kind of file is being opened automagically, and maybe this is where things go a little south?

When you have a web page open in Konqueror, can you check which engine is being used to display the page? This can be found in View > View Mode. You'll probably have three options: WebKit, KHTML and Embedded Advanced Text Editor.

Can you try switching between WebKit and KHTML to see if the behaviour changes?

sadly in khtml mode the javascript on the humblebundle site doesn't seem to work, meaning i can't access the tab for bittorrent downloads as opposed to direct downloads

Unfortunate. This means it could be a bug in the webkit backend, or Konqueror / KDE in general - but it impossible to tell. I would suggest filing a bug report against the Webkit backend for now.
