Hello (:

I recently installed Debian with KDE 4.
I saw that in order to use my bluetooth mouse (MS Notebook 5000) i've to install bluedevil.

So i did it, following this page : https://wiki.debian.org/BluetoothUser

But the bluetooth adapter is still not found.

My bluetooth adapter work fine on gnome.
The command 'hcitool dev' gives me :
Code: Select all
$> hcitool dev
Devices:
$>

My dmesg gives me this :
Code: Select all
$> dmesg | grep Bluetooth

After searching for hours on internet i come here to look for your help because i'm starting to think that KDE will not let me use my bluetooth.
Is there something to do to make this bluetooth works properly?

Thanks for your help,

Please ensure the adapter is enabled in Bluedevil - the lack of anything being returned by "hcitool dev" indicates the kernel bluetooth stack is not aware of any bluetooth adapters on your system.

I'm not sure that's what you asked:
Code: Select all
$> qdbus --system --literal org.bluez / org.bluez.Manager.ListAdapters
[Argument: ao {}]
$>

If not, how can I provide you what you want?

Given that Bluedevil is merely a user interface to Bluez, that indicates that Bluedevil would not have been able to enable your Bluetooth device in any case. I would suggest checking the output of dmesg to discover why your adapter is not being detected.

you must have something like this if your dongle is activate by system

hci0 is the first bluetooth dongle , it's your dongle
"UP" <=> your dongle is "active" <=> can receive command

linux-b4lz:~ # hciconfig hci0
hci0: Type: BR/EDR Bus: USB
BD Address: 00:02:72:C5:CF:A8 ACL MTU: 1021:8 SCO MTU: 64:1
UP RUNNING PSCAN
RX bytes:1172 acl:0 sco:0 events:67 errors:0
TX bytes:2276 acl:0 sco:0 commands:67 errors:0

linux-b4lz:~ #

anyway
if your bluetooth light of your dongle is on
then
try

bluetoothd stop

don't run "bluetoothd start" in any case just stop

or

hciconfig hci0 down
hciconfig hci0 up

you must see bluedevil appearing in your systray

I realize this is an old thread, and the problem may be solved, but for those still getting this message, and for the Google Spiders....

If bluetooth suddenly does not work:
If your KDE Desktop Settings / Bluetooth shows the message:
No Bluetooth Adapters have been found

1) Go to the adapters tab and make sure that the "Powered" check box is checked.

2) Laptops often have a built in keyboard Function Key combo, or a physical switch (airplane mode)
which de-poweres the wifi and/or Bluetooth chip set.

Power cycle this key-combo or physical switch, switching it off, then on again.

Often this will cause bluetooth to be instantly found, and your connections pair quickly.

On my computer (Dell Inspiron 9400) if I let it go to sleep by itself it will
leave the bluetooth in a "No adaptors found" state.
But if I close the lid to put it to sleep, this will not happen.
