I've been messing around with packages on my Kubuntu 14.04 install, and I've managed to break the NetworkManager widget. It appear as an "X" in the notification area, and when I place it on the desktop, I get the following error:
I imagine some important bit is missing. If someone could tell me what that is, I can probably figure out the rest with apt and Google. Thanks! |

Please try reinstalling the plasma-nm package (not sure of it's precise name in Kubuntu) as well as libnm-qt and libmm-qt if necessary. After doing this, please logout and back in again.

I've reinstalled the "plasma-nm", "libnetworkmanagerqt1", and "libmodemmanagerqt1" packages to no avail. Any other ideas?

Does this behaviour also occur under a new user?

Yes, the widget still doesn't work under a new user. I should also mention that the system still connects to the WPA enterprise wireless network just fine, I'm just unable to change any settings.

I'm afraid I don't know what could be the issue - can you check to see if other Network Management applets have been installed on the system?

Same problem here (Kubuntu 14.04 + Kubuntu PPA Beta). Today I've installed Plasma Active and now my plasma-nm is not working anymore. The error message is the same as the first comment in this post.
I've tried uninstalling Plasma Active and reinstalling plasma-nm and related packages but the problem continues. I'm using Gnome's plasma-nm for now but I really miss Plasma NM. Any idea? |

Which version of plasma-nm and KDE have you installed on this system?

I was using 4.13.1 from Kubuntu PPA and plasma-nm 0.9.3.3 from official repo. But the problem described here was not exclusive of plasma-nm; for example, desktop notifications failed with similar message.
So I've reinstalled Kubuntu and all seems OK now. |

Okay. My guess is that a component of Plasma itself was missing, rather than a part of plasma-nm.

Hi,
I had the same problem. I reinstalled plasma-nm and libraries as told above. But still nothing works. Sadly, reinstalling Kubuntu is not an easy solution for me, as i think it is for most people, to format your computer and start from zero. Sometimes it take days to get all your personal stuff working back again. However, as the message alerts some problem in
which belongs to some password text field somewhere. I suppose i can't set a password to some wifi which i don't use. But the applet is fully working now. Maybe is something with Plasma config. I'm not an expert. |

For the next person who encounters this issue - please note the version of KDE and Plasma NM you have installed. Also, if you are using any PPA repositories, please note which ones you are using.
