Nice full featured software. However, the browser doesn't seem to work on any of the sites I've visited (Hotmail, Youtube, Gmail, Adobe). Only certain portions of Hotmail appear on the screen. For Gmail, it redirects to the "standard html" page. On youtube, I was redirected to Adobe to download the Flash player. However, there's no download button appearing on Adobe website.
I'm wondering if the web browser part of Konqueror is dead or what. |

Funny enough, I just saw this post as I came to discuss the general state of Konqueror, but I think I can field that one. Anyway, it depends on what OS you are running, but you cannot simply download the flash plugin from Adobe's site and have it work out of the box in Linux or *BSD. It necessitates using nspluginwrapper, but the way in which it is installed (along with the flash plugin) varies by OS (and distro in the case of Linux). For instance, I am on FreeBSD, so I would follow this guide - http://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/des ... wsers.html Your OS/distro should have instructions for your package manager, or if you post back with your specific OS I'd be glad to help you figure it out.

I'm using kubuntu 14.04. Installed Konqueror via the Software Manager.
The biggest concern is that it doesn't work with any of the websites that I've accessed so far. |

By "doesn't work", I'm guessing you mean the elements that require Flash don't work. This isn't just a Konqueror problem, it affects any browser that doesn't have an embedded Flash player (i.e. anything but Chrome with Pepperflash). The issue with using KHTML over WebKit for me is that some pages are rendered in an odd way, not that they don't work, unless they require the Flash plug in. So for Flash in Kubuntu, do:
That should pull in everything. Then in the menu, go to Configure Konqueror - Web Browsing - Plugins. Then use "Locate Plugins" and the wizard *should* find libflashplayer.so If it doesn't, you may have to manually specify the location. To install WebKit for Konqueror you would do:
Then, go back to Configure Konqueror - General - and in the drop down choose WebKit instead of KHTML. If for some reason that doesn't work on Kubuntu, you should be able to follow this guide: http://voices.yahoo.com/how-webkit-konq ... 26154.html |

I'm using Firefox as well. Seeing that the mozilla develoment team has gone all microshaft and away from being an opensource organization, I'm moving away from it. Firefox works fine on everything. Konqueror does not. It doesn't load the sites I mentioned previously properly. I'm guessing that the those sites were redesigned to use HTML5 and Konqueror only supports HTML4.

You're only speaking about the KHTML engine, though. Using Webkit enables HMTL5 support just fine, as I type this I just watched a Youtube video with the HTML5 player in Konqueror. So Konqueror absolutely DOES support HTML5, insofar as WebKit does. The issue is that there are already some DRM HTML5 standards being introduced that it can't handle, usually you can resolve this by right clicking the video, and pasting the link into VLC's Network Stream option to view it. Also, the KHTML engine DOES support HTML5, just not as well as WebKit in my experience - http://www.konqueror.org/features/browser.php |

Is Konqueror loading flash? If it does not seem to be, try rebuilding the list of known plugins. Open Konqueror > Settings > Configure Konqueror > Web Browsing > Plugins > Plugins. Press "Scan for plugins".
I will add that it works fine for me.
