hi all
I recently upgraded to kubuntu 14.04 64bit with KDE 4.13 and Qt 4.8.6. The rekonq version is 2.4.2, konqueror is 4.13. Since then, both browsers have become absolutely useless because of loading pages very slowly (maybe half the speed of firefox) or failing to load pages (e.g. www.google.com) completely due to socket operation time out. This happens with webkit as well as with khtml. Since I desperately need a good kwallet integration, (firefox sucks due to permanent crashes) I would like to see at least on of both browsers working flawless. Any Idea thanks karl |

Hi,
I have checked several other webpages. The loading problem occurs with google and youtube: socket operation time out. Many other pages load as fast as firefox. Here an example for very different speed: www.une.edu.au. Konq is a pain in the a**, firefox superfast. Any Ideas? |

For the sites which are slow - do they end up loading in the end, or do they fail ( you mention socket timeouts )?

There are probably tweaks you can use for konqueror, but for some reason I don't think Ubuntu builds konqueror with the webkit engine, so I wouldn't invest too much effort into it. Konqueror w/ webkit is probably the best browesr available for linux.
PS... if you are using Firefox on Kubuntu, I would recommend installing either swiftfox or firefox from the firefox website. If you install the version from the repo's there are a ton of gnome dependencies that get brought in that you really don't need. |

Hi
@ bcooksley: the pages do not load at all. This occurs in konqueror with webkit and khtml. Funny enough, startpage.com works, and amazon is on all it's domains very fast. Cheers |

Just to eliminate proxy configuration as an issue, can you open System Settings and ensure it is explicitly set to "No Proxy"?

Okay. Using a terminal, can you try running the following?
It should complete fairly quickly (about the same amount of time it takes Firefox to load Google). Another thing i've thought of - is IPv6 enabled on your system? If so, try disabling it..

"kioclient copy http://www.google.com/ ./google.html" yield "Timeout on server. Socket operation timed out".
Some additional infos: When trying to download additional themes via the system setting add-on installer, it never gets beyond the initalizing proccess. Thus downloads not possible. I installed a fedora system running kde 4.11 on a virtual machine on this host. Konqueror in fedora works perfect. Cheers |

Okay, do you have IPv6 connectivity? If you don't - try disabling it to ensure it is not causing the issue.

Solved:
sudo emacs /etc/default/grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="ipv6.disable=1" sudo update-grub sudo reboot Thank you |
