I'm new to KDE, and I was guessing that Konqueror was the web browser made for the desktop environment, so I tried it out. But I think my version of Konqueror may be outdated, because websites like Google, Gmail, and Google Drive are not working or displaying properly. They say the "browser is not supported". What rendering engine does Konqueror use, and how can I update it?
Thanks. |

AFAIK Konqueror is not currently maintained so KDE does not actually have an up-to-date web browser.
Besides the usual Chromium and Firefox there is Vivaldi, developed by ex-Opera developers. I use Qupzilla (http://www.qupzilla.com) which uses KF5/QT5 and has done everything I want of a browser so far. HTH |

Well, at least it has been ported to KF5 too... And the WebKit backend (kwebkitpart) as well recently. And there's also rekonq, which uses QtWebKit too, just as qupzilla does (although the next version apparently will use QtWebEngine, which is based on Chrome/Chromium). The message about a not supported browser doesn't mean that your browser doesn't work. They probably just check the browser identification and don't know about Konqueror. Maybe spoofing as Firefox or Chrome would help. KHTML does have some problems, but WebKit should work fine on most pages. You can choose the engine in the "View"->"View Mode" menu, and set the default in Konqueror's settings. |
