I have opensuse 13.2 on a kde (4.14.9) environment and up until this week used konqueror for limited web browsing (mainly gmail); however, any more it crashes. At first I thought it was a gmail thing since it happened every time gmail chat tried to load (the html verison of gmail loads just fine) but after searching around some more, konqueror seems to crash whenever it tries to load anything https (weirdly I was able to load the wikipedia main page but any attempts to navigate off result in konqueror crashing). I tried changing the browser identification and I have the same issue for every single option. Disabling plugins also did not help.
I get a Segmentation Fault (11) error from the KDE Crash handler and when I launch konqueror from the terminal I get: konqueror(8286) KMimeTypeRepository::parents: "/usr/share/mime/subclasses" refers to unknown mimetype "application/vnd.ms-excel.sheet.binary.macroEnabled.12" konqueror(8286) KMimeTypeRepository::parents: "/usr/share/mime/subclasses" refers to unknown mimetype "application/vnd.ms-excel.addin.macroEnabled.12" konqueror(8286) KMimeTypeRepository::parents: "/usr/share/mime/subclasses" refers to unknown mimetype "application/vnd.ms-powerpoint.slideshow.macroEnabled.12" konqueror(8286) KMimeTypeRepository::parents: "/usr/share/mime/subclasses" refers to unknown mimetype "application/vnd.ms-excel.sheet.macroEnabled.12" konqueror(8286) KMimeTypeRepository::parents: "/usr/share/mime/subclasses" refers to unknown mimetype "application/vnd.ms-powerpoint.presentation.macroEnabled.12" konqueror(8286) KMimeTypeRepository::parents: "/usr/share/mime/subclasses" refers to unknown mimetype "application/vnd.ms-word.template.macroEnabled.12" konqueror(8286) KMimeTypeRepository::parents: "/usr/share/mime/subclasses" refers to unknown mimetype "application/vnd.ms-excel.template.macroEnabled.12" konqueror(8286) KMimeTypeRepository::parents: "/usr/share/mime/subclasses" refers to unknown mimetype "application/vnd.ms-powerpoint.template.macroEnabled.12" konqueror(8286) KMimeTypeRepository::parents: "/usr/share/mime/subclasses" refers to unknown mimetype "application/vnd.ms-word.document.macroEnabled.12" konqueror(8286) KMimeTypeRepository::parents: "/usr/share/mime/subclasses" refers to unknown mimetype "application/vnd.ms-powerpoint.slide.macroEnabled.12" .... fixme:d3d:wined3d_dxtn_init Wine cannot find the txc_dxtn library, DXTn software support unavailable. fixme:advapi:RegisterTraceGuidsW (0xd221a7, 0xdc0120, {aa087e0e-0b35-4e28-8f3a-440c3f51eef1}, 1, 0xcaf4a8, (null), (null), 0xdc0120): stub fixme:advapi:RegisterTraceGuidsW register trace class {aa087e0e-0b35-4e28-8f3a-440c3f51eef1} ..... openjdk version "1.8.0_72" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_72-b15) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.72-b15, mixed mode) KCrash: Application 'konqueror' crashing... terminal output is close to useless itr, you should get a crash dialog - the "developer information" contain a backtrace which ideally explains what segfaulted exactly.

Ok, I here is what I get from KDE crash handler (if there is a better way for me to post/share, please this let me know):

The bug has been reported at least 4 times (but not triaged):
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356330 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359297 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359215 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357562 Looks like a bug in QtWebkit - might be related to the java plugin, but that's all I can tell you (not my territory) - sorry ![]() |

Well as nice as it is to know I am not the only one having issues it is still extremely frustrating - I have been using konqueror for over a year and didn't start having issues until now (thanks for the other bug post links). Does anyone have any suggestions for workarounds or anything?

I've no expertise here, but it looks like a crash in the javascript engine (which will likely affect any QtWebkit driven browser) so, next to a QtWebKit update you can
a) switch to the kthml engine b) deactivate javascript for the page(s) that trigger this crash There're quite some reports against webkit (qt, gtk, vanilla) on this which blame missing gstreamer1.0-plugins-base to enter the broken path, so if you don't have the (optional) base plugins installed, that might be worth a shot to bypass the broken path. |

I tried and the QtWebKit update and no go. Unfortunately I cannot use gmail with kthml (I just get a blank white page) and if I turn off java I also cannot use gmail or some of the other websites I use, which doesn't make it a viable option.
What plugins are you talking about? Would I need to install or or deinstall something? I generally have plugins disabled on konqueror (in fact, I don't think I actually have any installed). |

Java. NOT! javascript!
Those are entirely different things. while javascript - actually ECMA script - is omnipresent, you hardly need java applets ever. There's a setting to disable java globally and it should be provided by the IcedTea plugin. |

Hmm, if I look my java settings in konqueror I don't appear to have the option to disable java - I can enable java globally but not disable.

This should close all konqueror instances and launch it w/o the glib event dispatcher which will "break" gstreamer. Otherwise /me/ is out of ideas, you'll have to use another browsers, attach yourself to the bugreports and hope this to be fixed at some point ![]() |
