I have been eagerly awaiting the release of KDE connect's ability to reply to SMS messages. I installed the version 1.0 an my arch desktop as soon as it was available and the same with 1.4 on the phone. I install the phone app from f-droid if that makes any difference. Currently I have Android app 1.4.4 and desktop version 1.0.1. My Plasma is updated to 5.7.
I have still not seen the reply button when I receive SMSes. Am I just stupidly looking in the wrong place? Where will the reply button appear? Are there other optional dependencies that enable this capability? In the settings for SMS and call notification on the desktop app, it still says in the description "(answering coming soon)". Was this not a part of 1.0? I am obviously confused Thanks for making a great and useful app even counting out this feature! |

I had a similar problem. I'm currently using kde connect from git (from aur, on archlinux) and latest app on android and it kind of works. There is about 70% chance that notification about the sms will have a 'reply' button whic I can hit and respond to the sms. Other times I just get a standard notification, without the button. In addition to that, notifications tend to disappear after about 3 seconds, that much time I have to hover with mouse over the notification in order for it to stay visible so I can hit that reply button. Sometimes I get 2 notifications for the same sms, if first one is with the reply button and next one is without it, that next one replaces previous one so I again can not reply to the sms.
I don't find this whole thing very usable, maybe I'm missing something out.. But there is a kde connect 'widget' which can be added to the panel/desktop and it shows all notifications received from the phone. I think reply buttons should be added to those related to sms notifications there, it would be much more reliable and also in case I get 2 sms-s from two contacts at the 'same' time, I could respond to each one of them, not just to last one. |
