Problems with samba and networking

Fri Nov 18, 2016 4:43 pm
Hello, I am new to KDE and Linux (2 days old actually) and I would appreciate your assistance. I do have a long experience with Mac's though (since 1986).

Yesterday I installed KDE Neon Plasma (user edition) to an HP i3 (no OS). Everything looks good except the networking and sharing. What I would like to achieve are the following:
  1. Assign a static IP to my HP for either the Ethernet or the WLAN interface, eg 192.168.1.120. I would prefer if both interfaces used the same IP. I don't see any way to make this setting though.
  2. I would like to be able to share files with other machines on my home LAN. The rest of the machines are Mac's. They are all sharing files via AFP but they can also share via SMB. I even managed to access one of my mac's on the HP but I did it by installing an extra piece of software which I don't think it should be necessary. I still haven't managed to access my HP from any of the Mac's though.
I did try to edit the /etc/samba/smb.conf file but i am not sure that this is the problem.
I would appreciate any help.
