Whenever i start VPN from the Terminal as root i can no longer run any programs. All currently running programs still work, but i cannot use the Shutdown button nor any of the icons on the Panel nor in the Menu to start programs or shutdown the compu.
It seems that starting the VPN service somehow changes my ID and i no longer have access to an xterm. It appears to be related to the Magic-Cookies and i have extensively checked Google for Magic-Cookies and tried out several suggested solutions, none of which seem to work. For example, running a program in Term returns this:
The situation does not resolve itself when i hit Ctl-C in the Term and stop the VPN. i need to use Ctl-Alt Backspace to get to the login Menu and from there i can shutdown the machine. i can also shut it down using the Term - if i don't forget and close it - by using the shutdown command or by using Krusader's command line area (i usually always have Krusader running). Here is another error output from a command in Term:
In addition i was looking things up in DuckDuckGo to find an answer and i ran across the idea that perhaps i'm logged in as another user now that VPN is running. My usual user is: [frazelle09@localhost ~] This is me as root and using VPN> [root@localhost frazelle09]# Opening a new tab in Terminal, i am now [frazelle09@linux ~] and using "su" and password, i am now> [root@linux frazelle09]# This appears to be a pretty difficult issue. My workaround is to make sure i have the programs open that i'm going to be using before starting VPN but obviously this is not really ideal - lol. Have a wonderful afternoon!
