unable to use usb wifi adapter with kde neon

i just installed kde neon to my hard drive and booted but the wifi adaptor will not connect or even turn on when plugged in. I have tried to install the driver but I encounter an error 1 or error 127. I am new to linux so I have almost no experience with the terminal so any support would be appreciated.
