Running kubuntu 18.04. Fully updated.
Plasma version 5.12.6, KDE Frameworks version 5.44.0, Qt version, Kernel Version 4.15.0.-23-generic, OS Type 64bit New to KDE. Have installed openvpn and checked its running status. Correct or not, I installed an OpenVPN Network Manager via the Discover application. I can't see any tab or otherwise in the NetworkManager applet. I've checked lots of posts and can't find an answer to my problem. NordVPN supplies ovpn files, previously I've used them in the Cinnamon Desktop on Mint with no bother. Can anyone help please? |

There is clearly something wrong with the GUI setup in the NetworkManager applet as there is no way to add a VPN. However, I have found a satisfactory way to get the VPN working via that same GUI. I make notes on all the things I learn, so here is my note. I hope it will help someone else.
___________- Installed openvpn via command line Installed openvpn Network Manager (assume it is a plugin) via discover - also tried the same thing via the command line but it showed it was already installed. There was no way to set up a VPN in the Network Manager GUI. I ran sudo nmcli connection import type openvpn file ovpnPathAndFile Where ovpnPathAndFile was a NordVPN ovpn file Now right click on the NetworkManager applet icon in the Panel and choose 'Configure Network Connections'. In there click on the VPN connection and set up the username and password. I chose to encrypt the password via the drop down option box. Apply and OK. Then, left click on the NetworkManager applet on the panel. Now showing is the VPN connection. Click to connect. A padlock should now show attached to the Network Manager panel icon. _________________ |
