OK
the old woodsmoker is kinda stupid... everybody knows that.... I lost my android today.... I remembered.....hey.... I have KDE Connect and I can send a PING to it... I did that.. no sound throughout the apartment, I did it several times... I checked the kitchen, I checked the upper bathroom, I checked the bedroom, I checked the office.... I did not check.... UNDER THE PILLOW ON THE COUCH..... I went to the automobile and almost removed the front seats looking for the phone... I then DROVE BACK to the LAST store where I had been shopping and the checkout lady assured me that I had NOT LEFT the phone there... I WAS GOING TO GET ON THE NET TO CALL THE PHONE COMPANY to report a lost phone when.... My daughter called to ask me if I was ok. AND I HEARD THE PHONE UNDER THE PILLOW RINGING.... KDE CONNECT.....if it is going to have a PING..... I KNOW.....I KNOW...."linux people"....are all about being....DISCRETE.... BUT A PING SHOULD BE A LOUD SCREECHING PING THAT CAN BE HEARD THROUGHOUT AN APARTMENT..... otherwise....it is kind of worthless........ I AM JUST GLAD THAT I DID NOT REPORT A LOST OR STOLEN PHONE TO THE COMPANY..... WOODLOVESKDECONNECTBUTTHEPINGNEEDSTOBELOUDANDSCREECHINGSMOKE I |

I agree!
The ping feature needs to bypass whatever the current audio settings are and make noise at the max volume until deactivated. The only reason I could see not to do that is due to technical limitation which disallows apps from changing your audio settings (though couldn't the app be granted such permissions and just remember what the settings were before the ping to revert them when done?)

Hi airdrik
thank you for the nice reply. I agree, it is a "settings thing"...and probably something that is not easily fixable... maybe.... what about a "special ping" that is actually "calling the phone" so that it rings...hmm thanks again. woody |

Today when I was moving files between the phone and KDE connect on the computer I noticed a "notification?" that I could RING the phone.
I don't know precisely how to explain that but I "think" that there was an update to KDE connect and it was turned off on the computer. When I clicked to start it the app showed the phone and it popped the "setup" page and there was an "option" to Ring the Phone.... I do NOT remember seeing that before, so I am maybe just not to bright. but..... I promptly did and it worked. loud and clear. KDE Connect is an amazing app! KUDOS to the developers! woodsmoke |
