Hello,

I have a dedicated desktop setup from Sherline and it is not connected to the internet. When I boot the computer takes forever to load because the software is attempting to connect to the internet. This is visible when I hit F2 on startup.
Is there a way to stop the boot sequence that is trying to connect?

This setup is used with my mini mill Sherline Model 5410.

I'm hoping there is a simple command line fix to stop this section of the boot sequence or other method?

Thanks

My specs:
K Desktop Environment Release 3.3.2
There is also a reference to (2003-10-19) if this helps.

OS
it should be possible to disable that altogether, but we would need to know what Distro is used, as the process is going to be very different today than it was in 2003.
Doing a small amount of digging on the Shoreline website shows Ubuntu was used a lot, but that did not exist in 2003. I see no mention of KDE, so it could have been a custom OS install on the hardware.

If you can open a terminal, likely called "Konsole", and give us the output of the command :
Code: Select all
 uname -a
, someone may remember or be able to research how to disable the automatic connection

if there is a program called System Settings, there should be a networking section in there, and you may be able to turn off the automatic connection from a graphical interface.
I can't remember that far back, though I was using KDE back then.

Hi Thanks for the quick response. Here is the response:

sherline@localhost:~$ uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.12.6-rtai #1 Sun Dec 25 17:15:38 GMT

2005 i686 GNU/Linux
sherline@localhost:~$

Also I did check the networking section of Help but there was no option to turn off
network connection attempts at boot.

Note: The setup I have works great and the software is excellent. This is a minor issue that just causes
long wait times on startup.
