KDE connect need help please :P

Thu Sep 19, 2019 12:46 pm
Hello everyone!

I just recently learned about KDE-Connect and would love to try it by connecting my Laptop (Arch Linux) to my Android phone.
I searched through the Wiki but could not find a solution for my problem. Would be cool if somebody could help me with this.
So, as I said: A Laptop running Arch and an Android phone. Both connected to the Internet via a Router, running FreshTomato (running an oVPN).
Firewall on Laptop is ufw; On my phone I additionally run the AirVPN android client "Eddie".
So when I fire up KDE Connect on both devices, they are unable to "see" each other. I also tried adding my Laptop from my phone via its IP address, but had no success with this either (I just enter the IP address and that's it, nothing else happens).

I asked on the Arch Forum as well, but figured I would try my luck here, since it is a kind of specific question.
I'm really excited to try connect, so if someone could help me, that would be great, I really don't know where to start and whether the issue is with my router settings, ufw or the VPN client.

Thanks in advance for your help!

PS: I love Plasma, it's amazing, I never stuck with one single DE for this long ever before :)

Have you adjusted ufw and/or your router?

I had opened the recommended ports (KDE Connect uses dynamic ports in the range 1714-1764 for UDP and TCP.) but devices still could not see each other.
Using firewalld on opensuse leap 15.1

I disabled the firewall, and the mobile phone and pc could then pair.
I started a transfer (copy) of a video from the mobile to the pc.
It is not very fast - seems to run at about 5Mbps
I then re-enabled the firewall and the copy is still progressing.

It seems the pairing process may require other ports?

Will check firewall log and see what else is being blocked.
