Whenever I open a weblink, say someone sends me something on Discord, Signal, etc., or there is a "Help" button in an app, it doesn't properly open the link. The most recent example of this being in a friend groupchat we have, talking about modded Minecraft, of all tings; I clicked on a link like this:
Code: Select all
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/multimc-bin/
, however it opened up
Code: Select all
file:///home/myuser/.cache/kioexec/krun/23093_0/unnamed
(my username being censored here).

This happens from everything that I open from a non-webbrowser, meaning every application on my system other than Firefox and Chromium. Is there a way around this other than copy and pasting every link or is it an on-going issue?

Any help appreciated and merry christmas everyone =)

Maybe something is wrong in your default Applications settings? (System Settings -> Personalization -> Applications -> Default Applications)

Also keep in mind that some applications have their own settings for this, e.g. Konversation does.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Doesn't seem like it... there is only this:
- Web browser: firefox
- File manager: Dolphin
- Email client: Thunderbird
- Terminal emulator: Konsole

Edit: forgot to mention that I am on Plasmashell 5.23.4 (newest one available for Manjaro KDE)

Quick update on apps that have this issue with me:

- LibreOffice
- Spotify
- Dolphin Emulator
- Microsoft Teams (Preview)
- Signal
- Discord
- Any steam game
- Vmware Workstation
- Opened links in text editors and in Konsole (-> crtl + clicking on the link in a 'git clone', etc.)

Right, all non-KDE applications except for Konsole, might be a bit trickier to solve...

If you right-click on that link, what does it say?

If I right-click, the normal context menu for whatever app I right-clicked in appears.

Is the issue a kioexec issue (because it is in the URL) or an issue of each individual app?

When clicking on a link marked as such, a right-click on it should show you at least an option to choose an app to open the link with, is this there?

Usually not, but that's just because the app devs usually don't do that, for example in Discord

I fear there is really not much we can do about, if it is not KDE software maybe ask the authors of the specific apps?

Makes sense

Thanks for looking into it though!
