I'm pretty sad to find that latest stable kopete can't work with any of my jabber account (tested on few computers and it crashes everytime and the end of fetching contacts probably) and snapshots from 4.2 have totally forgotten about jabber (you can't make new account with jabber, only other protocols).

Is this intended or am i just one unlucky guy that can't use jabber on kopete? In my opinion if jabber support is unstable and it won't be in kde 4.2 then i would be sad and mad. But i really hope i'm wrong...

My guess would be the unlucky guy. Jabber is working here on trunk and on the last stable release. So most likely something went wrong with your installation/configuration.

Give us some hints about your distribution and environment, so maybe we can help.

I know that cmake has trouble finding qca2 during cmake's initial configuration when I started to make KDE 4.1.80 packages for Kubuntu Jaunty, disabling Jabber, GroupWare and one other protocol. I ended up having to manually specify the path as a cmake argument. It could be that your distro didn't catch this error, or if you compiled it yourself that you are also experiencing these problems too.

I use Kubuntu 8.10 with latest upgrades (standard repos). So in 4.2 there should be jabber support i kopete? Servers i checked are jabber.cz and gmail.com . Here's error message i get:

That backtrace is not useful, as it's not built with debug symbols. Install debug packages (if you installed from a package of your distro) or use -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug (or debugfull) if you build from source.
In any case, you should file a bug at bugs.kde.org, attaching a backtrace with debug symbols.

I have the same problem. Whenever I try to connect to my school's Jabber server, I get a message...

...followed by a SIGSEGV. I'll do a backtrace as soon as my KDE is recompiled with fulldebug turned on. I found out that there are [url=http://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=specific&order=relevance+desc&bug_status=__open__&product=kopete&content=jabber+crash]several bug reports about crashes[/url] when using Kopete with Jabber, so we're at least not the only "unlucky guys".

Problem is solved for me. I had to install libqca2-plugin-ossl and activate SSL in Kopete's preferences.

In my case, the Jabber server requires a SSL connection. I didn't knew this and so I didn't check the "SSL encryption" checkbox and did not install the qca2-SSL-plugin. Result: BANG! Kopete has to catch this instead of crashing.
