I use ubuntu 8.10 with kde 4.1.3. It usually occurs when I am disconnected and reconnected or change form ethernet connection to wifi.

It gives Error message 17 remote host closed the connection. But I have no problem with pidgin.

You cannot remain connected to Yahoo if you do not have a internet connection. Pidgin is temporarily faking being connected to hide the fact it lost the connection ( lying to the user which is not good ) Kopete somehow interprets the connection as being closed by the remote host, when it was not, the connection was in the words of KMail "broken" ( this is a very minor bug )

If it does not automatically reconnect ( it should attempt ) then check the options to make sure you have enabled that feature and if you cannot find it, report it as a feature request, which will when the network comes online again restore your connections.

I am not talking about the moment i make transition . Its things happening after that. Yahoo never gets connected after that saying error 17 while gmail connects after I am connected to net. Where in pidgin I can connect.

The behavior is like this in kopete it gets connected for a moment listing contacts and then automatically gets disconnected . The auto connect feature is there which keeps on connecting and disconnecting.

Definitely sounds like a bug then. Makes perfect sense now. Please file this on the KDE bug tracker. Make sure to search for existing bug reports first

Speaking of which, Yahoo is upgrading their servers and Kopete doesn't work anymore. As a temporary fix, there is a list of IP addresses here which might work:

However, all of the ones I've tried are no longer working. Does anyone know if there is a PPA update or something for Kopete that fixes this?

To fix this , In the account preferences of your yahoo account , override server with this cn.scs.msg.yahoo.com. Working for me.

In the future, this workaround may not work. A proper fix is being included as part of KDE 4.3.
