Hi,
*Disclosure: I'm a KDE n00b. I've been using Gnome for years and switched. I like it, but I still have a lot to learn. I'm using the version of Kopete packaged with Kubuntu 8.10 (version 60.30). It has a few odd quirks that annoy me, such as forgetting that I had previously approved an ICQ contact. I like Kopete a lot and I want to continue to use it. However, I'm thinking I should upgrade to a newer version. My understanding of Kopete is that it belongs to a group of programs called KNetwork (I think?). If this is true, what programs should I uninstall in Adept in order to accommodate replacing it with the SVN version? Thanks, denali

You should be able to build just Kopete from SVN, you do not need to install everything. Therefore you only need to install any required dependencies and remove Kopete.

You can't just install kopete from SVN. It needs libraries from KDE 4.2. You could do the following things:
- Install KDE 4.2 beta packages ( http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.2-beta-2 ) - Wait for KDE 4.2 final (which will be released in 3 weeks) I tried to compile kopete from trunk/svn, too.
