I'm always getting a "Connection to host mail.google.com is broken" error when loading Gmail. Sometimes it partially loads, sometime all of it though not properly displayed.
Anyone else? Any solution? |

There is a bug reported about it: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152188

I submitted a bug (#179934) as the aforementioned references kde3 not kde4 and because the suggested workarounds don't work |

Setting your user agent to mozilla 1.7.3 doesn't work? I have that set for ALL off google.com and gmail works fine for me. I have had to do that for all versions of Konq (3.5.X and 4.X) |

i cannot either set up konqueror with gmail. when i switch to webkit in gmail i cannot use the mouse wheel and i cannot change the fonts size (there are too small) also after a restart of konqueror sometimes gmail is not accessible. For me is better khtml until konqueror switch completely to webkit (or if the KDE makes a better khtml)

I personally think it is a shame that konqueror just doesn't work with gmail and other web-based applications. Is this fixed in 4.2RC yet? I use arora at the moment and will make it my primary browser once it gains flash plugin support.

This issue is not resolved as of yet, as far as I am aware. Like some other parts of KDE, KHTML needs more developer power.

If it needs that many developers, why not simply abandon it in favor of WebKit ? I really do not understand why there still is no functional web browser included into KDE. Konqueror does not render GMail properly, which makes it totally unusable and the only alternatives so far are Opera and Firefox. Opera is Qt but does not provide enough configurability regarding its layout (way too many toolbars) and Firefox is GTK+.
So please, would it be possible to have a simple, functional, dedicated, webkit-based browser in KDE ? The Dolphin of the web browsers.

I believe a Webkit based KPart exists in playground/libs/ in SVN. However it is unlikely to be adopted until KDE 5 at the earliest, and that will depend upon the development state of both at the time development commences on that as to what happens.
Currently KHTML cannot be removed because it is in kdelibs, and its functionality is used for more than simple web page rendering.
