i figure you dont mean something like remote controlling your pc from another pc like VNC? more something like a real (tv)remote for example.. there is only one thing.. it's called lirc.. and kdelirc isn't ready jet so you have to configure lirc by your own.. but it isn't so hard... i can help you with this task..

Thank you for your help. Yes of course. It is Infrared remote multimedia. dmesg
My remote is a Philipps RC6, sold under the brand HP dv9540eb If I recall correctly, there was KDE 3.5, a programmme configuration remote controls. I do not know the name.

since the kde3 version uses dcop to communicate with the programs and kde4 dbus you could use "irkick" to manage your kde3 programs installed unter kde4 (if there are any) but you just cant use it to control your kde4 programs..
i have the same remote at work here.. setting up the .lircrc file in your homedir and making irexec autostart is no big deal.. just try it "by hand" -- to get a first impression have a look at this--> i know its german.. but the important stuff is universal http://www.pc-portal.at/module.php?mod= ... ase&art=11 the first site is about irkick and installing the remote.. the second site is maybe what you need and the third site is about using your remote as a computermouse..
