Hello everybody,
I just installed kde4 on my laptop (Ubuntu 8.10). I have tried to configure a local network which uses static IP addresses. I right-clicked the green icon of NetworkManager, choosed "New Connection", entered IP address, subnet, default gateway, DNS addresss etc (except from search DNS, which I don't know what is for), then I pressed "Next" and named the connection, and clicked "Save". However, when I try to connect to the network I created, nothing happens (there is no cogwheel). This is weird since NetworkManager does connect to DHCP (when I am home I use DHCP. The static IP is for a different place...) I really appreciate any help. Ofir

Well this problem is not so KDE related, since we're talking about basic system thing that networking is. Knetworkmanager was always one of the weakest points of Kubuntu, especially compared to network manager Ubuntu has...
I set up my static IP manually in /etc/network/interfaces file, which should go something like this: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.198 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.1 Which is a basic setting, but you get the idea. Then just restart networking, and that should be it. Hope I helped.....

The reason for no cogwheel is possibly because the connection was instant, therefore the Cogwheel did not need to be displayed.
Try running this command in Konsole, your network adapter should be listed with the settings you specified:
KDE Sysadmin

I upgraded to Kubuntu 9.04 alpha 4, which comes with the new network manager applet plasmoid.
I managed to configure the network connections (static IP and dhcp) with NetworkManager0.7 (the upper dialog in http://vizzzion.org/images/blog/networkmanager-kde4.png, but in the wired tab ). However, I don't know how to select a network connection, since the plasmoid doesn't list the wired connections. Do you know how to choose a connection in the new plasmoid?
