Every time i start my computer and log into KDE this little icon appears in my system tray (looks like a world) and then i have to click on it to choose my router. And i have to do this every time.. I remember it connected to my router automatically when i was using Microsoft Windows.. how can i make it connect automatically?

Right mouse click on the KNetworkManager icon in the system tray -> Edit Connections -> Select your connection and hit "Edit connection" -> click trough the wizard until you find the option "Autoconnect" and make sure it is enabled -> Save your connection settings.

If you are using wireless lots of luck! mine has never autoconnected. I got so annoyed with it I hard coded my /etc/network/interfaces file & it now autoconnects but knetworkmangler says it's unmanaged.

BTW that file location is for Debian based distro's & might be different for others.

Autoconnect seems to work fine for me.. the thing was that KNetworkManager didn't always start with KDE so i put it in Autostart and now it works fine :)

That would be a spam message. The user has been banned.

I also have the same problem in Kubuntu 8.10--even though I checked the Autoconnect box for the connection in KNetworkManager. What is the exact /etc/network/interfaces file edit that will fix it?

KNetworkManager is broken. I do not know the precise fix for /etc/network/interfaces, but I switched to wicd instead, which is an alternative network manager, which has yet to fail me after several months of use.

I removed the knetwork manager from my taskbar & installed the new network manager plasmoid (it's in Kubuntu but knowing the level of dev I would believe it's a KDE thing) & it works a treat! it detects the wireless networks I have installed & auto-connects beautifully.
