Since 2003 I've been using KDE on Debian, and always have had some minor problems using Knetworkmanager in combination with wifi. Especially when wep of wpa is required.
Early in 2008 I tried Ubuntu with Gnome. The networkmanager here is straight forward compared with knetworkmanager. The nomad setting in Gnomes networkmanager is brilliant. If theres an open network in the area, it connects. WEP connections is fare more easy in Gnome than KDE. Why? Knetworkmanager connects to wifi a long time after booting, this resulting in that widgets using web-based info is not updated immediately. Often it takes 5 min or more before the content is synchronized. I have now switched back to KDE, using Kubuntu. But I don't like the problems that Knetworkmanager is giving me. Anyone who can give me some hints on troubleshooting knetworkmanager? |

If you are using knetworkmanager with wireless forget it! there are other posts with info pertaining to this! I'm using Kubuntu Jaunty with knetworkmanager with ethernet (eth0) & not experiencing any problems.
The suggestions for fixing the wireless are use wicd or static entry in the /etc/network/interfaces file my preference is for the 2nd solution. Cary

1. keep a close eye on /etc/network/interfaces
or 2. install wicd

While this doesn't fix your knetworkmanager problem. I have been using the script to connect to my wireless AP quite successfully since the new Network Management Plasmoid/KCM has failed to compile for me. If you don't mind using a commandline tool, it is great. http://verbalshadow.wordpress.com/2009/ ... k-manager/ You could also make a quick shell script and run it via Autostart.

Hi,
I have problems with this software too. I'm using kubuntu 10.04 and I can connect successfully with WPA protection but I can't do connect using WEP protection. The question is: Why ? I formated my ubuntu 10.04 to install Kubuntu 10.4 but I'm no happy with this issue. What can I do ? |

Make sure that the appropriate WEP type has been selected, and that the key is correct.

Your WEP type can either Passphrase or Key. Also, make sure that the numbered field it is in matches that of the router.
