Kopete's deficiencies

Sun Mar 08, 2009 10:17 pm
I decided to try once more Kopete in its KDE 4 version and get rid of almost every QT3 software in my computer, but again, as in previous switches to QT 4 versions I'm having several problems that make Kopete rather "clumsy":
- Theres no "check inbox" option for MSN accounts nor Gmail (well, in QT3 version never was such an option for Gmail either, it would be a good idea, in fact I think many Hotmail users would swith to Gmail definitely)
- No popup message warning of a new mail arrived (well, rather previsible if it can't check the inbox)
- Deleting contacts just don't work, when I log in again, there they are.

Are these common problems everybody is experiencing or I'm just an unlucky guy?

Thanks and regards.

Being unable to delete contacts is a known bug unfortunately: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=122996
The Popup message is probably related to the missing Check Inbox option. I would not be surprised if this was removed because it was too network specfic, you may wish to ask the Kopete developers, or file a feature request.

I would add my personal list of things I miss or don't work with Kopete:

GTalk seem not to work in KDE4.2.1 it completely didn't work in normal KDE4.2.1, but with Qt4.5 it does work it's just always connecting...
I just can't get file transfering to work (again Gtalk). But it might be me or my net-connection as I can't get that to work in Pidgin, but I'm really "clumsy" when using GTk apps :D
Well that's that for now :D

It seems that Kopete dosen't work because of my distro choice (kopete has no telepathy support, so no Jabber. This is because arch version of qt-telepathy is too old.)
So sort-of solved... for me.

Here's my rather bizarre problems with Kopete:

1) Kopete will not remember what group I am moving my AIM contacts into.
2) It won't remember that I've approved a contact in MSN.
3) Yahoo Instant Messenger connects and disconnects constantly.

I just have to report that I got GTalk working. I had to change server from gmail.com to talk.google.com. And now it works!
No more problems for me :D

Does anyone here managed to get jabber conferences working with GTalk?
