Hi,
Is there any way to set the http_proxy environment variable that will operate globally within a KDE session? My laptop gets used both with and without a proxy (depending whether I'm at home or at work). I use kproxyswitch to change proxy settings, but this applies only to programs that read from the KDE-specific proxy settings. Other programs (such as Dropbox) look for the more general http_proxy environment variable. I can set it within a terminal, but it doesn't hold for the KDE session outside of that console window. Is there any way to set the variable globally within a session? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. |

While KDE is capable of following the environmental variables HTTP_PROXY, etc. unless there is a way to change environment variables underneath an application, there is no way for KDE to change HTTP_PROXY, nor is there a way for KDE to change its settings.
