Hi!
My Konqueror has several corrupted icons for websites (those which shows up in the bookmark menu or the title bar) in it's cache. Some others seem to be completely broken, so I just get the question mark icon although the website has an icon. I don't know how to clear that cache, it survived even deleting my whole $KDEHOME (~/.kde4-svn) directory. Thanks in advance for your help! |

They are stored in /var/tmp/kdecache-$(whoami)/favicons/
A symbolic link to your KDE Cache folder is stored as $KDEHOME/cache-$(hostname)

OK, thanks!
I deleted everything in /var/tmp/kdecache-$(whoami)/favicons/ and $KDEHOME/share/apps/konqueror/faviconrc. Now I get the question mark icon for every web page. How do tell konqueror to reload the favicons? |

Konqueror should retrieve them automatically as you load pages. You may need to ensure that all Konqueror instances have been restarted. ( The commands below will do this )

Thanks for your help, but that did not work. To me it looks like just opening the bookmarks menu is enough for konqueror to look up if has a favicon for the bookmarked sites. Then it discovers it doesn't have one and assigns the question mark icon, which after that isn't replaced anymore by the real icon when visiting the page.

Unfortunate. You may find that if you edit the Bookmark, then it might trigger Konqueror to update the favicon.

No, even deleting the bookmark, and readding it when visiting the site again doen't fix it. All other (non-bookmarked) sites show up with thier correct favicon in the titlebar and in the bookmarks menu if a place a bookmark on them. To me this looks more and more like a bug in the favicon caching algorithm: The question mark icon is treated like a fixed, correct favicon for a site once it's displayed.
Could you maybe verify this behavior (better with a test user account if you like your favicons) before I file a bug report: Bookmark a site, delete the favicon cache and $KDEHOME/share/apps/konqueror/faviconrc. Revisit that site via the bookmarks menu (wait for the questionmark icon to show up in the menu). Does the real favicon get reloaded or is it still the question mark icon? [Edit:] Just took a look at b.k.o. The favicon management code seems to be so messed up from the beginning that reporting another bug report seems to be useless, as it just would get marked as dup with one of the several years old bugs

I suffered this today, after I loaded Konqueror ( I use Arora now ). Unfortunate that it has been broken for a long time.

Welcome to the club! I hope my post wasn't the reason for your loss of favicons?!
Some favicons here showed up again, but I can't reproduce the steps to relaod them. Some even "half-reappeard" in that sense that they disappaer when I move the mose over that bookmark. The menueditor has a tool "reload all favicons" wich simply does ... nothing. Seems the code is horribly broken. Well, I can live with that.

No it wasn't, I cleared out my favicon cache when I removed my kdecache folder because it was growing too big ( and slowing down file management tasks )
