Hello togehter,
I have encountered a puzzling thing. I hope I can get an answer here althou I'am not sure if this is the correct place. I already tried searching and posting in other forums, but unfortunalty without any reply. Well maybe the question is to stupid or I am missing something fundamental. ... whatever an answer would be greatly appreciated. When I wanted to video chat with someone I discovered that the button for starting a chat conversation was missing. I now it was there in the past First I thought maybe its a problem of kopete, but then I cross checked it installing kmess with the same result. So on my system in chat programs there is no button to start video chat. Description: in kopete in the video configuration menu the webcam is displayed, video working and configurable e.g. contrast. But as mentioned above, no possibility to start a video chat.
lsof before starting video in kopete
lsof after start video in kopete
Has anyone encountered this and has an idea how to solve it? Help is greatly appreciated.

Try right clicking on the contact you wish to video chat. Does anything related appear in the menus?

First of all thanks for replying. Unfortunatly right-clicking does not bring any video-chat related options. I looked over and over all menues in kopete, kmess or pidgin I have not found options for web-cam conversation, which brings me to the conclusion that it cannot be a problem of the applications. It has to be something deeper in the system all applications use in common. Unfortunatly I am not an expert I have just recently changed over from the system with the windows . Now since the web-cam is discovered and works in the application configuration of kopete and a device is generated (video0) I don't persume it is an driver problem. So I should be something in between but what? Any ideas?
