Hi,
I've recently moved from KDE 3.4.2 on Fedora core 3 to KDE 4.2.1 on Fedora 10. If it was not for two minor bugs, my experience with KDE 4 would be perfect so I'm looking for help to help me investigate those bugs. Konqueror keeps openign new folders in a new window. If I select Settings>Configure Konqueror>File Management, In misc options, the check box "Open folders in separate windows" is unchecked. Am I forgetting to set something somewhere else, like in the KDE System settings ? Where can I find the where the konqueror save its file management settings ? So that I could compare between what shows up in the gui and what is actually saved in the config file. I did a quick look under ~/.kde but I can't see any file modified when I change the settings. Is the re a global configuration somewhere else, as opposed to a "per user" configuration ? Thanks |

KDE 4 stores its configuration in ~/.kde4 usually. It can also be found at $KDEHOME, if the environment variable has been set. The command "kde4-config --localprefix" will also tell you the location.
Konqueror stores its configuration at $KDEHOME/share/config/konquerorrc If you migrated your KDE configuration across by copying config files, please remove your entire KDE configuration outside a KDE session ( rm -rf ~/.kde* ) and start over.

I didn't import my config from the old PC but I deleted my .kde directory. Now it doesn't open the new directory in a new window which is the behavior I wanted. But now if I checked the box for opening folders in a new window, it won't work.
So I have the configuration I want but I'm stick with it. For now my problem is solved but there's still something wrong that I'll have to investigate later. I also just realised that Konsole also doesn't keep my own profiles under the File menu, but that will be for another thread or a bug report. Thanks |
