I gave KDE 4.3 a try.
Now every time I start Kopete and log in to my yahoo account Kopete pops up a message: You cant add your own contact to your contact list. I don't want to add my own contact but I haven't found a way to delete it completly. (I also tried with Miranda, but every time I log in the contact comes back.) The popup is a bit annoying, so I have either find a way to delete the contact or Kopete should ignore it.

Make sure to check under the "Blue" flag on Kopete's status bar to see if you have recieved any service messages, which can involve add user to contacts list also.

Nope, there is nothing. Just the popup.

I found something out:
When I block myself in the contact list, I get the popup on each login. If I'm not blocked, I get a service message, asking me if I want to add myself to the contact list. If I click on "Allow", I get the popup again.

Does this occur with a new user?

You mean a new yahoo account or a new system user?

New system user, although given that you tried an alternative client, it probably will not have any effect.
You may wish to see if the official client ( Wine may help here ) is able to sort this out.

you know what, i have the identical problem...i tried deleting my kopete folders and settings but it still comes back....i thought it must have been something i did to cause it. did you find a solution? |

I solved it by going into the messenger on mail.yahoo.com and removing myself from contacts.
Hope that helps!

thanks for that.
i didn't have any contacts to start with but creating a dummy contact with the same yahoo id as mine and then deleting it seems to have done the trick. that was truly driving me insane! |

I am experiencing this issue, too. I don't have any contacts in the Yahoo web interface, neither myself, nor a dummy. Nonetheless I get to read
every time I log in. |

yes, but have you tried my trick? create a dummy contact....and put your problem yahoo id as the email address. save it, and then delete it. that did the trick for me. |

I did try your workaround, I should have mentioned it. Unfortunately, it did not help. I can get around this by deleting all Kopete settings, but that's not quite optimal... oh well. |
