hi,

i'm a linux n00b who is in the process of trying to convert over from windows. with fedora 11, i'm now able to do everything i want except rdp into all of the other windows systems on my network using krdc.

here is the scenario:

i start krdc
select connect to a windows desktop
enter in the ip address 192.168.1.43:3389
enter in the user name for that remote machine
enter in the password for the remote machine
wait for something to happen (status bar says connection to 192.168.1.43)

i'm running:
fedora 11 preview, which is %100 up to date with all patches / packages (except tigervnc, see below)
kde 4.2
dell d600 laptop
all of this is being done internally on the 192.168.1.x subnet
i'm able to ping the host so i know i can reach it
firewall is enabled, and i haven't changed any settings on it
selinux is enabled, and i haven't changed any settings on it

$ uname -a
Linux falcon 2.6.29.3-155.fc11.i586 #1 SMP Wed May 20 17:16:59 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

$ ping 192.168.1.43
PING 192.168.1.43 (192.168.1.43) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 192.168.1.43: icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=3.02 ms

2 questions:

Are you selecting "RDP" dropdown option (IIRC) when connecting to the IP address?

Secondly, in Vista/2K8 is the option to only allow "new more secure incoming remote desktop connections" enabled which KRDC might not support?

yes, from windows vista to vista, vista to 2k8, or xp to vista all work.

That was it! krdc now works (tgervnc still doesn't but that's ok).:thumbs_up:

thanks for the suggestion:-)
